Brad's Grill, 2nd Avenue, Harfield Village, Kenilworth

Ask anyone in the Southern Suburbs where to go for a really good steak and Brad's Grill will be up there with the best. He specializes in steak, but also serves such delicacies as lamb shanks and calamari all done to perfection. His pepper sauce received an award and is most definitely the best pepper sauce I have EVER had.

We were there last night and as usual Ron just asked Brad to give him the best cut of meat he had. I chose a rump with mustard sauce. It's made with cream and 3 different kinds of mustard. The one is definitely Hot English and I don't know what the other two are, but the result is spectacular. But if you don't like really hot mustard, you shouldn't order it. It certainly clears out your sinuses.

As usual, as in most South African restaurants, the vegetables are butternut and spinach. But done very simply and very fresh. The chips were freshly fried. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The sauce, the chips and the vegetables, all come in separate bowls, so you can help yourself.

What I like about Brad's is that the owner is hands on and almost always present. If he isn't in the kitchen helping with the grilling, he's wandering around chatting to his customers.

Crazy Water Pickled Lemons By Diana Henry

I bought this book a couple of months ago. I was intrigued by the name as I'm sure most are. Diana Henry has a wonderful picturesque way of writing, and I really enjoyed every minute of this read. Lots of narrative and loads of interesting recipes. Her personality shines through. She manages to enthrall her readers with her magical descriptions of the tastes of the Mediterranean and the Far East. This is not just your average cookbook.
